I know we can't stay here forever, so I want to write my words on the face of today.

This is a little different than usual...it's a poem.

"You are the Same"

You're young, and you're looking up to all
by necessity, not by choice
it's not your fault you're small

You have your heroes.
your dad can never be beaten.
your mom, a force to be reckoned with.

Things just come.
there's no such thing as hate.
money. greed.

Fears?
oh, you have fears.
the dark, monsters, your best friend moving away.
Thank God you've grown out of those.
but you haven't.
they've just been renamed.

Now you're an adult.
or you think you are.
or they think you are.
Thoughts mean nothing,
and everything.

The dark is the unknown.
the future. your death. your failures.
with age comes knowledge.
knowledge that you can fail.
will fail.
knowledge that you don't want.

The monster is who you'll become.
you know it, because you see it.
those heroes, those forces, those unbeatable forces.
they can be beaten.
and they're just like you.

monsters.

Being alone is man's worst fear.
when you're alone, there is no one to face but yourself.
the monster in you.
everything you hate in other people, you possess as well.

You grow up.
you grow out of your fears.
or maybe just out of your clothes.
the fears are still there.
the monsters are still there.

it's inside of you, that fear.

You hate how now,
now that you're older,
you recognize the monsters.
You recognize the vulnerability.
you recognize the greed, power hungry
monsters that feed off fear.

And what scares you the most?

You are the same.
